Vegas Baby

Last weekend I decided to be spontaneous and Dylan, Luke and I took a road trip to Vegas. My sister who lives in Vegas was planning on running a 5k and for those of you that know me and my sis....know that I couldn't just let her show me up like that :) J/K.... sort of. Plus, the race was hosted by none other than the infamous Donny Osmond! Who could pass that up? Anyway, we left Dad and Tryg to bond at home, Dylan was going to be visiting his Dad, and I figured Luke would have a great time playing with his cousins and we would have fun spending some alone time together.
The drive up there was horrible and I was seriously doubting whether or not this was a good idea but hey tomorrow was a new day and we were going to get to see Donny! My sister and I before the race..... Our cheering section.... Yes, 6 of those belong to my sister. Can you believe it? And, she's a year younger than me!! She's a pretty busy woman to say the least. My sister starting the race and me finishing. About 2,000 runners and I got 2nd in my age division and 9th overall woman. I'm not to fond of coming in second but not too shabby for a 35 year old mom of 3 I guess. Running is not Susi's favorite pastime but she did an awesome job, running much faster than I think she thought she would (Shhh...I think she even had fun :)) The kids after the race having a good time. There were plenty of treats and fun stuff for them to do. But wait......where's Donny?
Ahhhh....there he is! He's so dreamy. My pre-teen nieces were quite twitter-pated :) Back at the house Luke was having a blast. It was great! He just disappeared into the scenery with all the other kids Later that day, Luke and I headed down to the strip for some Vegas fun (3 year old style of course). We started with a little snack at the new Serendipity Restaraunt outside of Ceasars Palace.
I thought Luke would really like the water show at the Bellagio but he was not a fan. Apparently he has a fear of water now....at least when it shoots 100ft into the sky. Then it was off to the FAO Schwartz toy store. After scouring all three levels and having him tell me everything he wanted we narrowed it down to one small toy. Mom's favorite section....the candy :) We made one more stop at the aquarium at Ceasars where Luke was a bit sceptical of the big fish but he quickly realized they weren't going to "get him" so it was all good.
I loved having a "date" night with my little Lukie. It was a great weekend despite the awful traffic I had on the way up and back from Vegas. It was fun to visit with my sister, get a change of scenery, and just be able to relax. We will definitely have to do it again!

planes, planes, and more planes

Last weekend we all headed out to the Miramar Air Show. The little one's traveled in style...I love this wagon! We can fit Luke, Tryg, and all our stuff in here and it folds down so it fits easily in the car. It's great for the beach too when you want to take the kids and don't have a husband to go with you to carry all your "kid" essentials. So there's my commercial...check it out here if you want. Back to the airplanes... Just hanging out.... Luke was not a big fan of the loud F18's. He kept saying things like "I don't want them to shoot me!" Tryg just kept looking at Luke like he was crazy. The ear plugs helped a little.
The sky divers were awesome....
...and I'm loving our new camera. The old one would have never gotten these shots....of course I'm going to need to take a class just to learn how to use it.
The air show is definitely a "guy" kind of place. Although It did make me want to go home and watch TOP GUN....I could go for a little Maverick and Iceman after that :)
The boys checking out the F16 up close and personal...
The giant plane below kept reminding me of JAWS.
We had a lot of fun. It was very patriotic and definitely makes you appreciate the military and everything they do. I loved seeing all those clean cut, respectful young men who have dedicated themselves to serving and protecting our country. I tried to sell Dylan on the idea of joining the military some day but it wasn't working too well. He's a very "cautious" boy and doesn't like the idea of doing anything that might be "scary". I know I would be a very proud Mom if any of my boys ever decided to serve their country.
The best part about the show is it's all free so we splurged and bought each boy an airplane souvenir. I love those airplane noises little boys make. Even Tryg has perfected the "whoooooosh" and Dylan's exact quote on the way back to the car..."That was awesome!" Definitely an afternoon well spent.
