Last weekend I decided to be spontaneous and Dylan, Luke and I took a road trip to Vegas. My sister who lives in Vegas was planning on running a 5k and for those of you that know me and my sis....know that I couldn't just let her show me up like that :) J/K.... sort of. Plus, the race was hosted by none other than the infamous Donny Osmond! Who could pass that up? Anyway, we left Dad and Tryg to bond at home, Dylan was going to be visiting his Dad, and I figured Luke would have a great time playing with his cousins and we would have fun spending some alone time together.
The drive up there was horrible and I was seriously doubting whether or not this was a good idea but hey tomorrow was a new day and we were going to get to see Donny! My sister and I before the race.....
Our cheering section.... Yes, 6 of those belong to my sister. Can you believe it? And, she's a year younger than me!! She's a pretty busy woman to say the least.
My sister starting the race and me finishing. About 2,000 runners and I got 2nd in my age division and 9th overall woman. I'm not to fond of coming in second but not too shabby for a 35 year old mom of 3 I guess. Running is not Susi's favorite pastime but she did an awesome job, running much faster than I think she thought she would (Shhh...I think she even had fun :))

Ahhhh....there he is! He's so dreamy. My pre-teen nieces were quite twitter-pated :)
Back at the house Luke was having a blast. It was great! He just disappeared into the scenery with all the other kids
Later that day, Luke and I headed down to the strip for some Vegas fun (3 year old style of course). We started with a little snack at the new Serendipity Restaraunt outside of Ceasars Palace.
I thought Luke would really like the water show at the Bellagio but he was not a fan. Apparently he has a fear of water now....at least when it shoots 100ft into the sky.
Then it was off to the FAO Schwartz toy store. After scouring all three levels and having him tell me everything he wanted we narrowed it down to one small toy. Mom's favorite section....the candy :)
We made one more stop at the aquarium at Ceasars where Luke was a bit sceptical of the big fish but he quickly realized they weren't going to "get him" so it was all good.

I loved having a "date" night with my little Lukie. It was a great weekend despite the awful traffic I had on the way up and back from Vegas. It was fun to visit with my sister, get a change of scenery, and just be able to relax. We will definitely have to do it again!
wow! that's a better date night/weekend than ryan and i have ever had besides the honeymoon.

yeah, next time invite ME - sheesh. and i was just saying last night how i need to do more one on one date type stuff with my kids. you inspired me.

Yeah...I love spending one on one time with them. Dylan and I probably have a "date" night at least once a month. We usually get something to eat and go to Barnes and Noble to look at books and get a treat. I try to use it as an opportunity to teach him how to treat a girl on a real date. I have to tell him things like, "Now, you can't burp like that on a real date" :), I try to help him to remember to open doors, etc.. It's good bonding time :) We have interesting conversations and he really looks forward to them....at least for now :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun trip!! Glad you got to spend some one on one time with Luke! Kids are fun and when they are on their own mine seem to act differently and really have a good time.
